YET ANOTHER NICE SUMMER SUNDAY CONCERT SERIES IN SWEET & SUNNY DOWNTOWN OXFORD

 

STRAIGHT DRIVE AT SHIPPEN MANOR

Drive straight to see Straight Drive's free Bluegrass concert on the lawn of Shippen Manor. Straight Drive is sponsored by the Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission on the Shippen Manor lawn in Oxford, just west of the Route 31 traffic light. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, alcohol free coolers, picnic baskets, and significant others for a good ol’ toe tapping pure Straight Driving Bluegrass music performance.

Straight Drive has played at Bluegrass festivals, major market radio broadcasts, traditional country music shows, and in various clubs. Vocalist Jen Larson, in addition to playing guitar, is a major part of the Straight Drive sound whether singing lead or tenor. She has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion and many other events around the country. Terry McGill sings baritone, has been featured in The Banjo Newsletter, and has been playing banjo since he was thirteen. He wrote a banjo instruction manual for Mel Bay Publications. Terry's 2001 solo recording "Straight Drive" has received airplay nationwide.

Mandolinist Ben Fraker son of two bluegrass musicians presents a strong Monroe-flavored style in his music and has played with important artists and groups for many years. Fiddler Ronnie Feinberg has appeared with Bill Monroe and many other talented bluegrass musicians over the years. Ron was nominated for I.B.M.A. Emerging Artist of the Year in 1995. Jim Treat on bass runs a recording studio in his spare time. Jim has played with the Delaney Brothers, The Eager, Hampton, and the McGill Band.  Dave Hampton started playing guitar at the age of fourteen and quickly became one of the most notable players in the “Keystone State” and is well known for his outstanding vocal skills.

Shippen Manor is located just west of the Route 31 traffic light in Oxford. This free concert is sponsored by the Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission, supported by the Warren County Freeholders, and funded in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. Shippen Manor lawn is reasonably accessible and accessible lavatories are available.
